What about the Sea Glass Ride? |
The first Sea Glass Ride took place July 1, 2006 when 40 riders pedaled from Swampscott to Gloucester and back. They followed a route our friend, Sue, loved best. Riders stopped at Stage Fort Park for a snack before heading back to the staging area of Congregation Shirat Hayam, where Sue's kids had attended preschool. The ride is now in its fourth year, and we are looking to expand the event, and we are also looking for sponsors to provide snacks, rider support, spare tires, tubes and other spare bike equipment. Thanks to Charles River Apparel for supplying our shirts last year. We also welcome your expertise to improve this Web site. Registration information is below. Back to the top.
We ride in memory of Sue de Vries of Swampscott, a mother of three, a good friend and a dedicated Pan-Massachusetts Challenge rider who died of breast cancer in April 2006 at age 44. She was an inspiration to us all, to her family, friends, other cancer survivors and riders in the PMC. Sue started a wellness group with her close friends called Sue's Circle of Hope and together they started the Sue de Vries Cancer Foundation to carry on her work of bringing wellness therapies like counseling, yoga or just providing a place to hang out for cancer survivors. All services are free. The ride's main goal is to raise awareness of these programs, and how cancer survivors can access them. Since Sue liked to collect sea glass, we give riders a piece in her memory, too. Main menu
